How Much Filler Is in One Syringe?

Placing expired filler on the surface of a staff member's skin, Dr. Naderi shows that one 1cc syringe spread over the cheeks is just a thin layer, so building cheekbones or a chin often takes several syringes placed deep on the bone, while one syringe is plenty for lips. Placed properly by the right injector, he says, the right amount won't make you look like a pillow face.

Key Points from Dr. Naderi

  1. A full correction lasts longer than a little bit, the way an eight-inch haircut lasts longer than a one-inch trim.
  2. One syringe spread over the cheeks is only a thin layer; flat cheeks or a weak chin need more.
  3. Deep injections on the bone take more filler to show the same result than filler sitting on the surface.
  4. One syringe is enough for lips, and most lips can't even take the full syringe.

Hey everybody, they got the Needle Ninja out of retirement to prove a point. I've been talking for 20 years about the volume of fillers and how it's so important to do a full correction, or at least approach a full correction. When people ask, well, how long does this last? I'm like, well, it depends on how much you do. If you get a one inch haircut, it doesn't last that long. But if you take eight inches off, that haircut lasts longer. Same thing with fillers. If you put just a little bit of filler, that doesn't last very long. But if you correct it fully, you appreciate it, you enjoy it, people will comment, oh my god, you look great, and it lasts longer.

But I'm going to show you, when people think, oh my god, that's too much filler, three syringes, four syringes, that's so much, I'm going to look like a balloon or a buffoon. I'm like, no, watch. We have four syringes of filler here. Each one is one cc. And I'm going to show you how this one cc syringe of filler looks on a face. This is a young, beautiful patient, one of our staff. She doesn't need anything on the cheeks, but I'm going to show you, if I put the entire one cc on the cheeks, by the time you spread it out, how much volume did this give us? It's just a thin layer, right? That's really all it is. An entire syringe.

So let's keep going. I know our fellow injectors are probably horrified seeing me waste fillers, but guess what? These just expired a month or two ago. We're not going to use it on patients, so we're going to have fun with it. So that's one syringe. Now let's come back on this side. Little drops, little drops of filler. That's one syringe. Now again, for somebody young, somebody with nice cheekbones, that's all they need. But if you have very flat cheeks, this is not going to accomplish much, right? By the time you massage it and smooth it in, there's not much left. So if you're trying to create nice cheekbones, that's not enough.

I'm going to show you chin augmentation. Again, it's just a beautiful chin. It doesn't need anything. But for chin augmentation, a lot of people need three, four, five, six syringes. Now here's the other thing that you don't recognize. This is sitting on the surface, so it looks large, but when it goes deep, it takes much, much more to get the same result. When you do a deep injection, these are going to be right on top of the bone. And if you need a good amount of filler, again, you can see. Once you massage it and smooth it out, you'll need probably three, four, five syringes to be able to get there.

Let's get a beautiful pair of lips on this beautiful pair of lips. I mean, look, the lips are perfect, right? Well, let's do it. One cc is perfect for a lip. So we never do more than one cc on lips. And look what happens. And a lot of times, a little secret, I don't even do the full cc in the lips, because most lips can't even take the full cc. You can kind of see that once it's smoothed into the skin. We don't need the lips to be that large.

But again, if you drop it down and look at how much augmentation she got in the cheeks, if you look at how much projection she got, if you're trying to take somebody's cheeks and really build them up, you need more syringes. If you're trying to take somebody's chin and build it up, you need more syringes. So we went through four ccs. At the end of the day, if it's placed properly by the right injector, you're not going to look like a pillow face. It's only when it's overdone. I've seen people get 15, 16, 20 syringes in their faces. Too much. But if you're doing the right amount, four, five, six, seven, if one of our doctors says, listen, you need five syringes, don't be afraid. We're not going to make you look weird. Have fun.
