What is Daxxify?
Daxxify is the new, longer-lasting form of botulinum toxin type A, also known as daxibotulinumtoxina, has been shown to last around six months in clinical trials, compared to the three to four-month duration of traditional Botox and Dysport injections. This is a breakthrough in the world of cosmetic “toxins” because it means patients need to visit their plastic surgeon’s office less frequently. If you found yourself making 3-4 botox treatment appointments a year, you may now need only 2. As an added bonus Daxxi’s results are noticed in as little as 1-2 days.
This new treatment was developed by the biotech company Revance Therapeutics Inc and can be used in all the same locations as traditional botox is placed. More commonly these “botox” like compounds are used in adults to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe wrinkles, crow’s feet lines around the eyes, and frown lines between the eyebrows.
Revance claims that Daxxi is made from a different type of “botox” protein that is more resistant to degradation by the body, making it last longer that our traditional cosmetic neurotoxins. How does Daxxify work for wrinkles?
Like Botox, Daxi blocks nerve impulses from interacting with the targeted facial muscles, in other words it temporarily doesn’t allow the nerves involved in motor function to talk to the muscles. This effect results in muscles of the face relaxing and preventing the formation of wrinkles or softening the appearance of wrinkles that already exist.
Where can Daxxify be injected?
Daxxify is usually injected in a similar fashion as is traditional botox. For example on the forehead Daxxi can help improve the appearance of lines between the eyebrows or forehead lines. It can also be injected in other places, like the massater muscles (also called TMJ Botox) or just above the lip for a Lip Flip.
What to expect after my Daxxi treatment?
The recovery after treatment with Daxxify is similar to that of traditional Botox or Dysport. The injection site may be slightly red and swollen immediately after the treatment, but this should resolve within a few hours. You may also experience bruising, which should disappear within a week. You will start to notice softening of lines and wrinkles at the targeted areas within 1-2 days.
