What Is a Deep Neck Lift?
A deep neck lift restores a sharp angle between the chin and neck and a clean jawline by working beneath the platysma, the thin sheet of muscle at the front of the neck. Much of the fullness under the chin sits under that muscle: the digastric muscles, the submandibular (salivary) glands and deep fat. Skin tightening and liposuction can’t reach it.
How Dr. Naderi’s Neck Lift Has Changed
“My deep neck lift today is very different from what I did 20 years ago. Back then, I removed the fat under the skin with liposuction, lifted a large skin flap from the jawline down to the lower neck, and then tightened the platysma.
Today I lift far less skin, and I hardly ever remove the fat under the skin. In most people, that layer is what keeps the neck smooth. Instead, I work below the platysma, in the deep neck. I reduce the digastric muscles and the submandibular glands, and sometimes the deep fat under the muscle. Only after that structural work is done do I tighten the platysma with a corset platysmaplasty.”

Do You Need a Facelift With Your Neck Lift?
Usually, yes. Most patients need the deep neck work combined with a deep plane facelift. Incisions in front of and behind the ear let Dr. Naderi pull the platysma toward the sides, tighten the neck and remove extra skin. The deep neck work under the chin creates the space that gives the neck a clean angle.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Good candidates are healthy adults bothered by fullness under the chin, neck bands, a soft jawline or loose neck skin. Anatomy matters more than age.
You should be at a stable weight, and if you smoke you’ll need to stop before and after surgery.

How a Neck Lift Is Performed
Your neck lift is done under general anesthesia at Prince William Surgery Center, where Dr. Naderi has been medical director since 2023. Surgery takes 3 to 4 hours. You go home the same day, and most patients don’t need drains.
Through a small incision under the chin, Dr. Naderi lifts the platysma and works in the deep neck. He reduces the digastric muscles and the submandibular glands, and removes deep fat when needed. In most patients he leaves the fat under the skin in place. Then he tightens the platysma with a corset platysmaplasty.
In most patients, a deep plane facelift is done at the same time, through incisions in front of and behind the ear, to pull the platysma toward the sides and remove extra skin.

Neck Lift Recovery
Most patients go back to work after two weeks and to exercise after one month. The final result shows at about six months.

How Long Does a Neck Lift Last?
A deep neck lift typically lasts 10 years or more. Your neck keeps aging, but it stays ahead of where it would have been.
How long your result lasts also depends on you. Patients who stay out of the sun, don’t smoke, use good medical-grade skin care and keep up with non-invasive follow-up treatments tend to keep their results longer.
What Are the Risks of a Neck Lift?
Every operation has risks. With a neck lift they include bleeding under the skin (hematoma), infection, temporary numbness, scarring, small contour irregularities and, rarely, weakness of the nerve that moves the lower lip, which is usually temporary. Dr. Naderi goes over your own risks, including those of the deep neck work, at your consultation.

- Start with a virtual consultation. You send photos of your face and neck ahead of time.
- Receive your surgery plan. Your proposal arrives by email, and a patient coordinator walks you through scheduling.
- Arrive one to two days before surgery. You meet Dr. Naderi in person before your procedure. Pre-operative testing is done with your own doctor within 30 days of surgery.
- Stay for two weeks after surgery. Then you can travel home.
- Follow up from home. Your one-month visit is done by telehealth.
