It depends on where it goes and on you, Dr. Naderi says: the same filler lasts longest in the lower eyelids, next in the nose, and goes away fastest in the lips. Areas like the cheeks and chin can take more filler and still look natural, which helps it last longer, and differences in metabolism mean it's you, not the injector, who determines how long a filler lasts.
Dr. Shervin Naderi, Double Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon
I would love to hear your experience with filler longevity, meaning how long a filler lasted for you. I'll give you an example. The same exact filler in the lips lasts far fewer weeks or months than it does in the nose or in the lower eyelids. The lower eyelids last the longest, next the nose, but the lips go away pretty darn fast.
Now, I had a patient that came in about a month ago. She had fillers elsewhere to her lips. She was quite unhappy. Came in to me. I did her lips. She loved it. She absolutely loved it. Went home, and then she came back a month later and said, it's all gone. It's not all gone. It was there. It was obvious that it was there. But in her mind, it had settled down enough that it felt like it was all gone.
Again, the injector, the plastic surgeon, dermatologist, whoever's the injector, has no control over how long the filler lasts in you. In some places, it's a matter of amount. I mean, in the cheeks or the chin, when you do more, it lasts longer. In the lips, there's a finite amount. I mean, you can't put five syringes in somebody's lips. You can in somebody's chin or cheeks and still look natural, but you definitely can't do it in the lips.
So there is a difference in longevity. Everybody's different. There are differences in people's metabolism, et cetera. It is you, and it's not the injector, who determines how long a filler lasts. But tell me your experience with fillers, different types of fillers. Let's get a discussion going on this.
