Do Fillers Migrate?

No. Dr. Naderi explains that fillers do not move, but they can spill over when an area is filled beyond its capacity, which is what people mistake for migration.

Key Points from Dr. Naderi

  1. Filler fills three-dimensionally, unlike flat lipstick. In a tight lip with little room, especially a younger lip, some fullness can show above the vermilion border. It is not an ideal look, but it is not migration.
  2. Lips with more laxity and fine lines tend to fill outward instead.
  3. Filler is a gel, not a solid. Pushing the bridge of the nose higher and higher makes it spill over and widen.
  4. He says the idea started on Instagram and spread because people kept repeating it.

Good morning. Seems like every few weeks I have to make a video reminding everybody that filler migration is not a thing. It's nonsense. It doesn't exist.

Somebody at some point started it on Instagram and then it just propagated. Everybody started repeating that phrase, fillers do not move. They can spill over when an area is overfilled, they do not move. So there is no filler migration.

Let me explain to you. When you see that extra fullness at the top of the lip beyond the vermilion border, that's called a white lip. The lip, when you put a filler, it's not like you putting lipstick. Lipstick is flat.

It's two dimensional. Filler is not. When you put the filler, no matter which direction you go, whether you go this way, this way, or this way, the filler fills in three dimensionally. So when you see it here, if the lip is tight and doesn't have much room, especially in younger lips, especially in Caucasian lips, you may see some of the fullness above it.

That's not migration. It's not an ideal look, but certain lips, that's what's going to happen. Now, if the lip has a lot of laxity, lots of little lines, then it fills out outwards. But if it doesn't, you are going to feel some of it up there.

You will see some of it up there. Again, not an ideal look, but it's not a migration. It shouldn't really be aesthetically happening. But if you want to fill your lips beyond what the capacity is, that's what happens.

Let's go to the nose. If you put fillers in the bridge of the nose and you insist, I want to go higher, higher, higher, higher, I want it to be super high. The filler is a gel. It's not a solid.

So what happens, it spills over. So it starts to widen, especially up in this area. It is not migrated. It's just spilled over.

If you put filler here, it does not migrate here, here, here, here. It doesn't happen. So please, whenever you see filler migration, just roll your eyes, move on. It's not a thing.

Trust me.
