Masseter Botox relaxes the chewing muscle that tightens when people clench and grind at night, which can damage teeth and cause headaches, and Dr. Naderi says it also slims the jawline. The ideal patient has a strong masseter you can feel jump out when they bite; if you need to lose weight to slim your face, he says Botox won't do it.

All right, we're going to do one of the coolest things, which is fast, quick masseter injections. So the masseter is a muscle right here. It's one of the muscles of mastication. It helps you chew, but sometimes people chew too much. They grind. The muscle just creates this tension at nighttime. You're stressing, you're grinding, damaging your teeth, you wake up with a headache. So by relaxing this muscle, it relaxes things, right? There's another muscle too, the temporalis, that also plays a role, but we almost never inject that one.
Now, our beautiful patient here has a very strong masseter. I mean, it's like Schwarzenegger's biceps. I want you to see this. Relax right there. Now clench. Relax. Look what happens to my finger. Clench. Yeah, do it again. Relax. Clench. You see it right there? It just pokes your finger out. So this is the muscle. Here it is, and I'm going to inject it with a few little drops. Rest your head back. Relax, relax. Cool.
So this is quick and easy, and it works within two weeks, and I'm going to basically spread the Botox throughout the muscle, kind of going through the belly of the muscle. Got a big blood vessel here, I'm hoping to avoid it. I'm looking at it, fingers crossed. Avoid the blood vessel, hit the muscle. Boom, I missed the blood vessel. Perfect.
So here's one side. I'm going to go to the other side and do the exact same thing. Something to do about three times a year. It'll slim down the jawline, slim down the face, but also, more importantly, make her have less clenching and less tension headaches and all that kind of stuff.
Now, for some patients who are large, if you're overweight and you think Botox is going to slim your face, it's not going to happen. You have to have a strong masseter. Put your finger there. If you feel that muscle jump out and really kind of hypertrophy, then yes, we can slim it down. But if you need to lose weight to slim the face, you need to lose weight to slim the face. So please don't go to a med spa and waste your money on Botox. Everybody's doing it, but it's a waste of money.
So this is the ideal patient. She's thin, but she has a strong masseter. Again, bite for me. Boom. Bite again. Right there, big strong muscle. We go right into it. It's in the belly of the muscle. Nice and gentle. You disperse it throughout. There are no parts that are untouched. Do not go anteriorly. If you go out in the front part, you'll actually inject muscles that control the smile. We don't want that to happen. So you're staying in the masseter itself. Don't veer off in this direction, and don't be too high. You don't want to get muscles that are actually creating the smile. So this is just a masseter. That easy, that fast, and she'll see the benefits in a week or two, and she'll repeat this in about three or four months.
