BOTOX® in Virginia
You can look younger by reducing lines and wrinkles with Botox injections or fillers. BOTOX® injections relax muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. Other substances actually fill in or plump up an area to make it smoother. This "filling in" procedure can involve the use of fatty tissue taken from your thigh or abdomen, the human or animal protein known as collagen, or the longer lasting hyaluronic acid (brand names Restylane®, Perlane®, Hylaform®, Captique™, Juvederm and others) , Radiesse™ or the FDA approved permanent filler - Artefill.

BOTOX® Cosmetic
Is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead, mouth or neck to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. BOTOX® may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms.

Collagen
Is a naturally occurring protein found in the second layer of skin (the dermis) which "plumps up" the skin, joints, bones and ligaments. Injections counteract the effects of gravity, nicotine, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement by filling out sunken areas and smoothing lines for a rejuvenated look. Results may begin to fade in a few months, depending on the patient's age, genetic background, skin quality, lifestyle and body site.

Captique™
Is an injectable filler designed to reduce wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. Approved by the FDA, Captique is manufactured by Genzyme and distributed by Inamed Aesthetics, the same company that produces Zyderm®, Zyplast®, Cosmoderm®, Cosmoplast® and Hylaform® and now merged with Allergan, the company that produces Botox. Like Hylaform®, Captique gel is made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar that bonds with water to add volume to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is non-animal based and carries almost no risk of allergic reaction, so no pre-treatment skin test is necessary.

Captique works in the same way as Restylane. The clear gel is injected beneath the skin, where it binds with water to plump up wrinkles and folds, giving the skin a smoother, younger look. Touch-up treatments every few months can maintain the effects. Dr. Naderi can answer further questions and determine whether Captique is right for you.

Restylane®
Is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. It is a clear gel composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout your body. The most common areas for treatment are the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth), the lips as well as glabellar lines (between the eyebrows). With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane€™s effects can last for many months.

Artefill
Is the first FDA-approved filler available in the U.S.. It is a safe and effective way of permanently reducing the nasolabial folds or augmenting the cheeks or chin area. A quick skin test is required one month prior to the procedure to ensure that the patient is not allergic to the collagen component of Artefill. If there are no signs of an allergic reaction then the in-office filler injection can be performed safely. Four to 6 weeks later a second injection session is often required. Occasionally a 3rd session may also be necessary to achieve the final desired effect. The incremental filling sessions are required to achieve safe gradual fullness without over-filling. Although this filler is initially more expensive than other fillers available on the market, over the long run it is more cost-effective since the non-collagen component of Artefill will last permanently and negate the requirements of frequent injections year after year.

Juvederm
Is one of the newest hyaluronic acid fillers in the U.S. Although it has had a long and safe track record in Europe and Canada, it was not available in the U.S. until recently. Distributed by Allergan / Inamed, the makers of Botox and Collagen, this filler is very smooth and is ideal for use in the lips for reduction of wrinkles as well as for lip augmentation, and for use in the tear troughs to reduce one of the causes of the dark circles under the eyes.

Radiesse
Formerly known as Radience, Radiesse is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces wrinkles, creases and scars by augmenting the body's natural collagen supply. Composed of microspheres in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries almost no risk of allergic reaction. Radiesse can be used on many areas of the body, but the most effective areas treated are the nasolabial folds. Results are visible immediately after the injection and can last for months or years, although the procedure can be repeated as often as you wish.

Hylaform®
Or hylan B gel is FDA-approved to temporarily reduce minor lines and wrinkles on the face by adding volume to the skin. Hylaform is made with purified hyaluronic acid, a sugar found naturally in the body that works with collagen to keep the skin smooth and supple. Aging, exposure to sunlight and other factors cause the hyaluronic acid in our cells to break down. Our skin loses volume, and lines and wrinkles appear. Hylaform injections replace those sugars and restore the skin to its youthful appearance. Frequently treated areas are the nasolabial (smile) lines, vertical lip lines, frown lines between the eyes, and marionette lines. No pre-treatment skin test is necessary. Treatments are quick and relatively painless, and results are natural-looking and immediately visible. Effects last for a few months and then begin to fade as Hylaform is re-absorbed by the body.

Skin resurfacing and wrinkle treatment
Reducing "age-spots" and wrinkles can lead to a smoother, more youthful skin appearance. "Resurfacing" involves removal of the damaged top layer of skin in order to stimulate and reveal new healthy skin. This can be done using LASERs, chemicals (chemical peels) or mechanical means (dermabrasion). Resurfacing can reduce the signs of damage done by years of sun exposure, tobacco use or genetic predisposition.

Thermage in Washington, D.C.
The Thermage procedure is an advanced way of tightening skin that uses a unique form of radiofrequency energy to allow the physician to tighten loose or sagging skin, producing a kind of "lift" without an incision or recovery time. Although the results are not as significant or pronounced as with surgery, it is the most viable non-invasive method to tighten loose skin.

With the gentle touch of the device tip, the surface of the skin is cooled, while the deeper tissue is altered by radiofrequency heating. This not only tightens deeper skin tissue, but jumpstarts new collagen production, which occurs over a period of time.

While not a substitute for a surgical facelift, the Thermage procedure can be used on patients with a moderate amount of sagging skin and wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is sometimes referred to as a "non-surgical face lift", ThermaLift or DermalLift by physicians who have observed that this non-surgical procedure lifts and tightens tissue, similar to a facelift without the surgery. The ideal candidates for Thermage are patients who cannot take even a few days off from their busy schedules to recover from surgery or patients who are too medically ill to undergo surgery or patients who only need a subtle lift or improvement.

Virginia Lip enhancement
Full and vivacious lips have always been recognized as aesthetically important features. Some of us, however, are born with thin, ill-defined lips, or our lips lose their fullness with age. But the appearance of our lips is now within our control. As the lips lose volume, "smoker's lines" or vertical lip lines develop which can be reduced by replenishing the volume to the lips without surgical resurfacing.

Both surgical and non-surgical techniques are used to decrease wrinkles, plump the lips, and reduce a long upper lip. Non-surgical techniques include the use of injectable fillers, such as collagen and Restylane®. Permanent lip augmentation can be achieved using Advanta™ soft implants or by lip advancement or lip lifts. Dr. Naderi will evaluate your individual desires and needs, and then recommend and fully explain each procedure to you at the time of your consultation.

Lip Augmentation
What do you see when you notice a beautiful face? Perhaps the eyes? The beautiful skin? Maybe the lustrous hair, but always the mouth. The mouth and lips contribute a considerable component to the overall beauty of a face. Lips that are plump, while sensuous, are a sign of youth and vitality. Many of us are lucky enough to have full, curvaceous lips that look even better with artfully applied lipstick. But as we age, our lips thin and they no longer have that youthful appeal. Some of us have never had the advantage of shapely lips and wish to improve the mouth. Our lips may be small, asymmetrical, or wrinkled and the problems become more pronounced over time.
