Which ZO Sunscreen Is Right for You?
Sunscreen is the one product I ask every patient to use every day, no matter what else is in their routine. It protects the results of everything we do, from laser resurfacing and peels to a facelift. ZO makes several excellent sunscreens, and the best one is the one you will wear every single day.
Ships directly from ZO Skin Health. Our link connects your order to The Naderi Center.

Which ZO sunscreen should I choose?
For a clear everyday sunscreen, Daily Sheer SPF 50 is an easy choice. If you prefer mineral protection, Sheer Fluid SPF 50 uses 22% zinc oxide and is fragrance-free. For a tint, Smart Tone SPF 50 adapts to most skin tones. Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30 doubles as a makeup primer, and Sunscreen + Powder SPF 45 makes it easy to reapply over makeup.

Sunscreen After Lasers, Peels and Surgery
After laser resurfacing and most of our skin procedures, we ask for strict sun avoidance for three months. Healing skin burns and darkens more easily, and sun exposure can undo the results you came for. Daily sunscreen is a non-negotiable part of that.
Follow the aftercare instructions we give you for your specific treatment, including when to start sunscreen again on freshly treated skin. If you are not sure which ZO sunscreen to use while you heal, ask us at your follow-up visit.
See our laser resurfacing and chemical peel pages for more on recovery.
Sunscreen for Melasma and Dark Spots
If you are treating brown spots or melasma, sunscreen does as much work as any cream. Visible light, not just UV, can keep melasma active. Tinted sunscreens with iron oxides, such as ZO Smart Tone SPF 50, add a layer of protection against visible light.
For stubborn pigment, we often pair daily sunscreen with prescription ZO hydroquinone 4% and in-office treatments. Learn more on our hyperpigmentation and melasma page.
How to Apply Sunscreen
- Make it the last step of your morning routine, after your serums and moisturizer.
- Use enough to cover your face, neck and ears evenly. Most people use too little.
- Reapply every two hours when you are outdoors, and after swimming or sweating.
- Wear it every day, including cloudy days and days you sit near a window, since UVA passes through glass.
The Product That Protects Everything Else
Patients invest in lasers, peels, injectables and surgery, and the sun can quietly undo a lot of that work. I would rather you wear a sunscreen you love every day than an expensive one you skip. If you have sensitive skin or you are healing from a treatment, a mineral option like Sheer Fluid is a good place to start.
Dr. Shervin Naderi, MD, FACSZO Sunscreen FAQs
Should I use a mineral or chemical sunscreen?
Both protect well when used correctly. Mineral sunscreens such as ZO Sheer Fluid SPF 50 (zinc oxide) are often preferred for sensitive skin. Chemical sunscreens such as Daily Sheer SPF 50 tend to feel lighter. The best choice is the one you will wear every day.
Which ZO sunscreen is best for oily skin?
Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30 has a smooth matte finish, and Sunscreen + Powder SPF 45 absorbs oil and is easy to reapply over makeup.
Which ZO sunscreen has a tint?
Smart Tone SPF 50 has a self-adjusting tint, Sheer Fluid Tint SPF 45 has an adaptive tint, and Daily Mineral Sunshade SPF 45 comes in six buildable shades.
Do I need sunscreen indoors?
If you sit near windows or drive often, yes. UVA rays pass through glass, so we recommend sunscreen every day.
Can I use ZO sunscreen after a laser or peel?
Follow the aftercare instructions for your specific treatment, including when to restart sunscreen on treated skin. We will tell you which product to use while you heal.
