Why Should Your Surgeon's Technique Keep Evolving?

Dr. Naderi says a facelift he did over 20 years ago made the patient extremely happy, but he would not use the same technique today, because his deep neck, deep plane facelift, brow, eyelid, fat injection and rhinoplasty techniques have all changed. If a surgeon has been doing the same exact thing decade after decade, he says, walk away.

You know, I was in the office reflecting on some old surgeries, pulling up my software. I've been doing this for almost a quarter century, hence the gray hair. And I was pulling up pictures from over 20 years ago, a facelift that I did on a beautiful young lady that came from Florida.

And you know, what I did over 20 years ago, she was extremely happy. Would I do the same technique today? No. The deep neck work, the deep plane facelift, brow lift techniques without endoscopes but endoscope style surgery, eyelid surgery, fat injections, everything has changed.

Rhinoplasty, what I did 20 years ago, 25 years ago, 15 years ago, 10 years ago, five years ago, is not what I do today. And that's how you have to evaluate your surgeon. If you see a surgeon who's been doing the same exact thing all the time for decade after decade, walk away.

The specialty improves when we improve our own technique. The specialty of plastic surgery evolves when we evolve year after year.
