Not always. Dr. Naderi describes a patient whose eye doctor and oculoplastic surgeon both recommended removing only the excess eyelid skin, when her brow position and her ptosis also needed to be corrected at the exact same time.
Dr. Shervin Naderi, Double Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon
Good morning everybody. So I just had a situation which comes up frequently and I wanted to mention it because it's super important. I just had a patient that came in and she has seen her eye doctor, ophthalmologist who referred her to an oculoplastic surgeon. So two eye experts recommended she get the eyelid excess skin removed.
I have known this patient for many years. I told her that's a completely wrong recommendation without getting the brow in the proper position, without getting her ptosis, which is basically the actual drooping of the eyelid itself corrected, getting the skin removed is a mistake. All three have to be done at the exact same time. That's something that you really need to see an expert oculoplastic surgeon who she thought she saw, but given the wrong information.
So how do you know who's right, who's wrong? You truly need to do your homework. Don't just trust what a doctor says because they could be wrong like this one was.
