Patients often focus on the face and overlook the neck. Crepey skin, horizontal lines, vertical banding, and laxity can all give away your age, even if your face looks youthful. At The Naderi Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, we treat the neck both without surgery and with it: Botox®, UltraClear laser resurfacing, Morpheus8, fillers and, when needed, a neck lift performed by Dr. Naderi, our facelift and neck lift specialist.

Treating Neck Laxity
- The skin on your neck ages faster than your face because it’s thinner and gets more sun and movement.
- You can treat neck laxity with Botox, lasers, microneedling (like Morpheus8), fillers, or surgery, depending on how much loose skin you have.
- At The Naderi Center, our physicians help you choose the right treatment for your neck and your goals.
- Non-surgical treatments work well for the first signs of aging; they do not need much recovery time.
- The best results often come from using treatments together. They tighten, smooth and lift the neck in a natural way.
Why the Neck Ages Faster Than the Face
The skin on your neck is thin and produces less oil compared to your face. Because of this, it shows age signs sooner. As a person grows older, the body creates less collagen and elastin. The neck is also exposed to the sun and to gravity, and it bends constantly as we look down at screens. Over time, lines form, the skin sags and texture changes become easy to see. People call this condition “turkey neck.”
“Many patients look ten years younger in the face but forget about the neck, and the contrast can be striking,” says Dr. Shervin Naderi, double board-certified facial plastic surgeon and founder of The Naderi Center.
Neck Aging by Decade
The right treatment depends partly on how far the changes have gone:
- In your 30s, early horizontal lines and slight texture changes appear. Preventative treatments like Botox and light laser resurfacing help.
- In your 40s, collagen decline becomes noticeable. The skin loses elasticity, and volume loss may begin. Morpheus8, fillers and fractional lasers are good options.
- In your 50s and beyond, neck bands, deeper creases, and skin laxity develop. At this stage, combination therapies or surgical neck lifts may be required.
Non-Surgical Treatments to Tighten and Smooth the Neck
Botox for Platysmal Bands and Horizontal Line
Botox® works well for vertical platysmal bands and “necklace lines.” When injected precisely into the neck muscles, Botox softens the appearance of cords and fine lines without surgery. Results typically last 3 to 4 months.
Morpheus8: Microneedling with RF for Skin Tightening
Morpheus8 pairs microneedling with radiofrequency to stimulate collagen deep in the skin. It tightens loose neck skin, smooths lines and can improve skin tone, and it works well for patients in their 40s and 50s. It is done at our Reston office, usually as a series of 3 to 4 sessions and then about once a year. Morpheus8 can firm the skin, but it is not a substitute for a surgical neck lift.
“Morpheus8 is one of the most effective skin-tightening options we offer for the neck. It’s minimally invasive but produces dramatic improvements in firmness and contour,” says Dr. Naderi.

InMode, the company that makes Morpheus8, named The Naderi Center a Top Morpheus8 Provider in 2023 and 2024.
UltraClear Laser for Deep Resurfacing and Texture
The UltraClear™ Laser is a fractional laser that treats deep neck wrinkles, rough texture and sun damage. It reaches the deeper layers of the skin, boosts collagen and smooths crepey skin, and it is safe for all skin types. Downtime is about 5 to 7 days for a light treatment and 7 to 10 days for a deeper one. UltraClear is done at our Reston office.
Fillers for Neck Lines and Contour
Cosmetic injectables such as Restylane, Juvederm and the RHA Collection can soften lines on the neck and sharpen the jawline, giving the face and neck a more youthful shape without surgery. All injections at The Naderi Center are done by physicians.

When to Consider a Surgical Neck Lift
When non-surgical treatments are not working, a neck lift provides the most noticeable and lasting changes. Dr. Naderi performs neck lifts in the operating room under general anesthesia, and the surgery takes about 3 to 4 hours. The deep work is done under the chin, where he reshapes the structures beneath the platysma muscle and then tightens the platysma itself. For most patients the neck lift is combined with a deep plane facelift, which lifts the neck back up to where it came from through incisions in front of and behind the ear and removes the extra skin.

Gender Differences: Male vs. Female Neck Rejuvenation
Men tend to have thicker dermis and stronger muscle bands in the neck, which can require higher doses of Botox and more aggressive energy-based tightening. Women often seek earlier intervention and finer contouring. At The Naderi Center, treatment plans take these differences in anatomy and aging into account.
“Men and women age differently, and our approach must reflect those anatomical and aesthetic differences,” explains Dr. Naderi. “We tailor each neck treatment plan to align with a patient’s gender, aging pattern, and goals.”

When the Face Looks Young But the Neck Doesn’t
People often want to improve their faces but do not consider their necks. When a person treats the face and not the neck, the age difference becomes clear. Treating both together gives a more natural, consistent result.
Combining Treatments for the Best Neck Rejuvenation Results
To get the best results, many patients at The Naderi Center use a mix of professional treatments. For instance, Botox softens vertical lines, Morpheus8 makes skin firm, the UltraClear laser improves how skin feels, and fillers restore volume. When laxity is more advanced, a neck lift makes the biggest difference.
Recovery and Downtime by Treatment Type
Not all neck treatments require the same amount of healing time. Some have you back to your day right away, while others need a bit more rest and recovery.
| Treatment | Downtime | Common Side Effects | Time to See Results | Results Last |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Botox | None to 1 day | Mild redness, swelling, or bruising at injection sites | 3–7 days | 3–4 months |
| Dermal Fillers | 1–3 days (mild) | Bruising, swelling, tenderness | Immediate to 7 days | 12–18 months |
| Morpheus8 | 1–3 days | Redness, swelling, occasional bruising | 3–6 weeks after series begins | 1 year or longer (with maintenance) |
| UltraClear Laser | 5–10 days | Skin sensitivity, redness, peeling, or flaking | 1–2 weeks | 6–12 months or longer |
| Surgical Neck Lift | 2–3 weeks (initial healing) | Swelling, bruising, tightness, sutures | 2–3 months for full results | 10–15 years |
Treatment Frequency
Most patients repeat Botox every 3–4 months. Morpheus8 treatments are usually performed in a series of 3–4 sessions with yearly maintenance. Fillers last up to 12–18 months. UltraClear results keep improving for months; one session is often enough, though deeper lines may need more than one.
Is It Too Late to Treat Neck Aging?
Regardless of your age, you can always address loose neck skin and the creases that form there. While younger patients benefit from early care, older patients often show great improvements with the correct combination of surgical and other methods.

FAQs About Neck Tightening and Rejuvenation at The Naderi Center
What’s the best non-surgical treatment for neck tightening?
Morpheus8 works well for mild to moderate neck laxity, and it is often combined with Botox and laser treatments. It is done at our Reston office as a series of 3 to 4 sessions, then about once a year. For more significant laxity, a surgical neck lift is usually the better choice.
Can lasers safely treat the neck area?
Yes. The UltraClear Laser is safe for neck use and effective in improving crepey texture and fine lines. It is also safe for all skin types, including Middle Eastern, Asian and African American patients.
How long do neck lift results last?
A well-done neck lift typically lasts 10 to 15 years. How long it lasts also depends on you: avoiding the sun, not smoking, using good medical-grade skincare and keeping up with non-surgical follow-up treatments all help.
Do fillers really help the neck?
Yes. Placed correctly by a physician, hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm or RHA can soften horizontal neck lines and add a little definition to the jawline.
Are men good candidates for neck treatments?
Yes. Men tend to have thicker skin and stronger neck bands, so they may need higher doses of Botox or more aggressive energy-based tightening. Men are candidates for both surgical and non-surgical neck treatments.
