Healthy, even skin with a deep glow is everybody’s ideal, but the reality is often dull, damaged skin that comes with problems ranging from wrinkles and sun damage to hyperpigmentation and acne scarring. These issues are not necessarily permanent, but sometimes the side effects various cures offered can sound worse than the problem themselves.
Fortunately, The Naderi Center offers a safe and relatively gentle treatment: The VI Peel. This innovative chemical peel can improve the texture and feel of dull sun damaged skin and reduce some sun spots and hyperpigmentation. It may also reduce fine lines but wrinkling and deep acne scars require more aggressive resurfacing at The Naderi Center such as fractionated CO2 laser or Erbium Laser. VI peel can leave your skin with an even texture and a glow from within. What’s more, it can do all this with very little discomfort and only a few days of redness and peeling.
Candidates for VI Peel treatment
Ideal candidates include anyone whose face is marred by marks like hyperpigmentation, or sun damage, as well as those with fine lines, dull or rough skin, or other signs of early skin aging. Since the VI Peel is so gentle, it’s an appropriate treatment for patients of almost any age and skin type.
VI Peel treatment: Peels Offered
The original VI Peel uses a special blend of the powerful phenol and TCA acids to smooth scars and wrinkles with added tretinoic acid to soften fine lines, salicylic acid to exfoliate, and vitamin C to brighten the skin. The combination removes skin imperfections while stimulating natural collagen and elastin production to produce fresh, bright new skin.
For those who would like a stronger treatment, The Naderi Center also offers the VI Precision Peel, which is about 25% more concentrated. This means that the treatment and recovery are slightly more intense, but it is powerful enough to treat the most stubborn hyperpigmentation such as melasma and age spots on the face.
A VI Acne Peel is also available. This specialized peel contains the same blend as the original VI Peel with the addition of benzoyl peroxide, which removes bacteria, cleanses pores, and improves skin turnover to target the underlying cause of the acne while removing scars at the same time.
The VI Peel treatment Process
After a consultation with Dr. Kulak to determine the correct peel for your skin and plan your treatment, your skin will be carefully cleansed to remove any oil, lotions, or makeup that could interfere with the peel’s effectiveness. The VI Peel will then be applied to your face in a number of layers to build up its potency. The entire in-office procedure will take about thirty minutes, but the peel will remain on your face for about four hours. Before going home, you will be given careful instructions for when and how to remove the peel with a neutralizing solution at home.
Once the peel is removed, the total healing process will take about seven days. It will be red at first with an appearance like a sunburn, and there will be some flaking toward the middle and end of the healing period. During this first week, you’ll need to carefully avoid sun exposure and use correct aftercare to keep your sensitive skin moisturized.
For best results we ask patients to come in after taking a shower without any makeup or moisturizer or sun screen so that the peel can get a deep penetration.
The VI Peel treatment Results
Once the skin is finished peeling, you’ll be able to see your final results: Glowing, soft, even skin. Any excess pigmentation may be noticeably reduced, and your skin texture may be dramatically improved with a youthful radiance.
FAQs about VI Peel treatment
You’ll see noticeable improvement after just one peel, and for some patients, that’s enough to completely satisfy them. Depending on the extent of your skin problems, though, you may wish to have a series of treatments to get the maximum benefit.
The VI Peel is a very safe treatment and has few potential complications. A few patients may experience tender or slightly swollen skin, but this will resolve within a few days. Even more rarely, some patients may develop lighter or darker areas on their face which can persist for up to a few weeks.
In most cases, yes. With all peels, there is a risk of skin lightening, and darker-skinned patients are also at higher risk for developing hyperpigmentation from the treatment as well. During your consultation, your risk will be assessed, and it may be recommended that you have a pre-treatment 2-4 weeks before your VI Peel to reduce these risks.
Makeup is perfectly safe to wear after the peel for the first few days, but it’s a good idea to avoid it during the second half of the healing period where you’ll be experiencing peeling.
Removal of sun damage and acne scars can be permanent as long as you are careful to avoid unprotected sun exposure and other risk factors. Anti-aging benefits like smoother, softer skin and reduced wrinkles can also be long-lasting if you follow a proper skincare routine, but additional peels in the future may be desired to offset future results of aging.
