I recently heard of something called a Y facelift. What is this and is it effective?
Answer:
A Y facelift is basically the same as a liquid facelift. It is a nonsurgical technique using volume replacement with injectable fillers to rejuvenate the face. As we age, we loose volume in our face and have increased laxity of our facial tissues. In a Y facelift, hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are utilized to augment the cheeks, nasolabial folds, tear troughs and jawline. Adding volume to these locations on the face helps support excess tissue and smooth’s the contour of the face to resemble a more youthful appearance. It can be effective in rejuvenating the face, but is temporary, as these fillers will disappear over time. This type of procedure will most likely require maintenance every 6-9 months as the fillers dissolve. A Y facelift is more effective in patients with early signs of aging and minimal excess neck tissue and jowl formation. Patients with significant neck laxity and excess skin would benefit more from a surgical facelift in addition to volume restoration. To give you the most accurate recommendation about whether a Y facelift would be right for you, it would be best to see you in one our greater Washington, DC practice locations located in either Chevy Chase, Maryland or Reston, Virginia.
