Question: I’m a freshman in college. I’ve always been very self-conscious about the shape of my nose, but until now my parents felt that I was too young to undergo elective rhinoplasty. Now they’re on board with the idea so I’m ready to move forward. I’m very active in team sports, competing in both women’s volleyball and lacrosse. Will I have to curtail these activities after having rhinoplasty?
Answer: Typically you want to wait for 2 weeks after rhinoplasty before heavy exercise to prevent a blood rush and a nose bleed. You also want to wait 1-3 months before contact sports or pressure on the nose. While you should live your life and not become a couch potato after a rhinoplasty, you need to weigh the risks and possibilities of breaking your nose after your nose job, from volleyball or lacrosse. While any nose can break by getting hit hard, a post- nose job nasal fracture is an expensive and heart breaking fracture!
