Will I be able to drive home after my eyelid surgery?
Answer:
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can be done under local anesthesia or IV sedation. Anytime any type of sedation is given whether it is in the form of pills such as valium or pain pills or IV sedation anesthesia is administered, my patients are not allowed to drive home themselves after surgery. Even when the surgery is performed without any anesthesia, I still recommend that you have someone drive you home after surgery. Post operative swelling and ointments used during the surgery can sometimes make the vision a little blurry after surgery. Furthermore, it is important to stay relaxed and rest during the first few days after surgery to reduce the risk of any complications.
