Question: I have my rhinoplasty scheduled in a month. Are there any tips that you would suggest for reducing bruising and swelling afterward?
Answer: There are many factors that contribute to bruising and swelling. The technique of your plastic surgeon is key. So is the length of time of the rhinoplasty. The longer the surgery the more swelling. We check blood work labs on our patients to make sure they don’t have a coagulopathy that can cause more bleeding and bruising. We give them a list of medications, supplements, vitamins and foods to avoid such as Ginseng, Ginko, Garlic, Flaxseed oil, Omega-3 oils, NSAIDs, red wine, etc. Arnica Montana is an herbal supplement that can help reduce swelling and bruising. Pineapple juice can also help. Talk to your plastic surgeon.
