Is Perlane or Juvederm better for filling nasolabial folds?
Answer:
Both Perlane and Juvederm are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers and are both great products that can be used for filling the nasolabial folds or smile lines and filling the marionette lines. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of our skin and other body parts and adds volume by holding water in our skin and underlying tissues. It is safely removed by a natural process and provides lasting results from 6 months to one year. Juvederm and Perlane are made by different companies, composed of the same main ingredient with a slightly different formulation. Juvederm is made by Allergan, and Perlane is made by Medicis. The subtle differences between these fillers can make one a better choice for different patients. Juvederm comes in two forms, Juvederm Ultra, or Juvederm Ultra Plus. The Juvederm Ultra Plus has a higher percentage of crosslinked HA which ultimately increases the viscosity, making it more suitable for deeper folds with a deeper placement for greater volume correction. Juvederm Ultra is better suited for finer wrinkles and folds. Perlane is similar to Juvederm Ultra Plus in that it has a greater particle size which makes it a more viscous product that is best used for deeper folds in need of a greater volume correction. Overall, both products are useful for correcting nasolabial folds and the most important factor is the skill of the injector to deliver the filler that would best treat your nasolabial folds.
