Dr. N, I am a nurse with a horrible breast cancer history. We are positive for the BRCA2 genetic test so I have been referred for prophaltic bilateral masectemies. Have you ever done this type of surgery and if not can you reccommend a qualified physician. I am an athletic 54 yr. old female , I have never smoked or drank. I have been contimlpating this for the last 2 yrs. and I am finially ready to proceed with the surgery. I would appreciate any advice you could give me, i am nervous about the outcome and I’m searching for a qualified surgeon that would treat me as he would want his wife treated…. thank you for your time, Lynn
I do not do any body surgery as I am purely a Facial specialist. The information on Breast and Body on this site is for educational purposes. I know that Plastic Surgeons would do the reconstruction after a prophylactic mastectomy but Breast Surgeons (who are specialized General Surgeons) would do the actual removal of breast tissue. Dr. Brenner is known for that in the Northern Virginia area but there are many more good surgeons out there.
I wish you lots of luck as I know this is a very emotional and tough decision for you.
