Question: I had a columellar strut placed during my rhinoplasty surgery almost two months ago. I can now feel the ridge of the strut all the way down into my upper lip and it even looks visible when I smile. Is this normal? Is it too soon after surgery or will a revision procedure be necessary?
Answer: Your plastic surgeon put the strut too far down and it can click and cause smile issues. It can be modified with a minor closed revision rhinoplasty but it is a bit too early. Typically I would recommend waiting about a year from your original rhinoplasty but a very minor touch up revision like this can be planned and done after 6 months has passed. Give it a few more months and see if it softens up a bit. Do talk to your plastic surgeon about this columellar strut in your nose.
