I have mild rosacea but I would like to get a laser resurfacing procedure. Will this aggravate my rosacea?
Laser resurfacing can be done in patients with mild rosacea if the goal is for improvement in skin texture, tone, fine lines and sun damage, but this type of laser resurfacing will not treat your rosacea. There are nonablative laser treatments that target redness and vessels. The best treatment for rosacea is with a pulse dye laser (PDL) or with intense pulse laser (IPL). PDL, IPL and nonablative laser target the blood vessels to improve the redness in the skin and reduce the visible blood vessels. Skin resurfacing procedures can aggravate rosacea and may have a longer healing time with prolonged redness. It is important that are evaluated in person by a board certified facial plastic surgeon, plastic surgeon or dermatologist before pursuing any resurfacing procedures.
