For lower eyelid surgery, are the incisions always made inside of the eyelid? Is a skin incision ever needed and if so, why?
Answer:
The incisions for lower eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can be made either on the inside of the eyelid or on the outside of the eyelid. If there is excessive loose skin in the lower eyelid then a skin incision is need to remove this extra skin. When no skin needs to be removed then the incisions can be placed inside the lid and the eyelid bags or excess fat can be removed through these incisions.
