Question: If I am looking for more subtle removal of wrinkles from my face, would Dysport be a better option over Botox? I have read that Dysport has 1/3 the active ingredient of Botox.
Answer: Dysport and Botox are both acetylcholine inhibiting neuro-blockers. They are like Pepsi and Coke! Some patients love Dysport and others love Botox and yet others cannot tell any difference between the two. Try both botox and dysport and see which one you like best. The statement about “the active ingredients” is not true. The dosing is different between Botox and Dysport. With Dysport I inject 3 times the dose of Botox but the cost per unit is 1/3rd that of Botox so cost ends up being the same. For example, to treat frown lines (Glabellar lines), I typically choose 20 units of Botox or 60 units of Dysport. Both cost $300 each.
