How long do the results of a chemical peel typically last? Will I need to do multiple procedures?
There are several types of chemical peel solutions and the results vary depending on the depth of the peel. A superficial peel, such as with an alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid will improve skin texture, tone and some discolorations. The result of a superficial peel typically last 2-3 months, since it only affects the top layer of the skin. Often superficial chemical peels are most effective when performed in a series, spaced several weeks apart. A medium to deep chemical peel effects deeper layers of the skin and will help improve wrinkles, acne scars and age spots. The downtime is significantly longer, usually 1-2 weeks with this type of peel, but the results are dramatic and long lasting. For most patients, a deep peel usually doesn’t need to be repeated.
