Question: I know that Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid. What is its purpose in the natural world, and how does that relate to cosmetic treatments?
Answer: Hyaluronic acid is a gel matrix in which collagen fibers float in your skin normally. Initially dermal fillers were made of collagen but many forms of collagen required skin tests due to high risk of allergic reaction and they didn’t last very long. Later on Restylane and Juvederm came along which are Hyaluronic acid based and they don’t require allergy testing although allergic reactions are possible to any material and the HA products last longer.
