I was interested in a nasal implant to add a bridge to my nose. I wanted to know what are some of the limitations of using a nasal implant. I also wanted to know if the implant needs to be replaced every several years like some breast implants.
There are several types of nasal implants. The material are usually either Goretex or Medpore or Silicone. The shapes come in various forms and sizes from L – shaped ones to I – shaped ones, etc.
The problem is that a significant portion of nasal implants will cause complications later on ranging from severe infection to shifting to extrusion.
The best method of nasal augmentation is natural tissue such as cartilage and fascia. Cartilage can come from septum, ears, your ribs or Frozen cadaver ribs. All all safer usually than any implant.
Nasal implants do not need to be changed out like saline breast implants and its best to leave them alone if they are doing fine, so not to seed them with infection.
