Question: I just had my first Restylane injection after using Botox for the past 3 years. I had a lot more bruising and sensitivity from the Restylane than I ever had with Botox. Why is this?
Answer: Injection technique of your doctor is very important. I have patients who fly in from Florida or Michigan or New York for Botox and filler injections because they prefer the reduced bruising and swelling that comes as a result of a gentle and precise touch and understanding the anatomy and where most major blood vessels are. However, bruising and swelling can and does occur with most injections and it’s a function of the needle most of the time. Restylane which is a Hyaluronic acid can actually cause blood platelets to leak from the capillaries even a few days after the injections resulting in bruises.
