Are injectable fillers permanent or can they be removed if you don’t like the results?
Answer:
I use lots of Hyaluronic acids (HA) such as Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm in my Chevy Chase Maryland office as well as my Northern Virginia office. These fillers can be dissolved with Hyaluronidase enzyme (Hydase or Wydase) if needed but I have never needed to do so in my own patients. I have had a few come from other doctors who were over injected. Hydrelle was a very problematic HA filler that did require removal using Wydase/Hydase. They go away on their own anyway after 4-6 months (6-12 months under the eyes). Radiesse lasts longer (about 18-24 months) and there is no way to dissolve it other than in the first day with saline dilution. Artefill, Silicone and other fillers that are more permanent cannot be removed and will not go away on their own usually. Hence, I like to avoid these fillers. Removing them requires cutting the Artefill or Silicone out!
