Question: I’m a healthy, 22-year-old woman who would like fuller lips. I’d also prefer a lower maintenance solution. What are the benefits and drawbacks of temporary injectable fillers like collagen, Hylaform, Perlane and Restylane and permanent fillers like Artecoll?
Answer: For the lips, Hyaluronic Acid fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Hylaform, Captique, and Collagen fillers like Cosmoderm and Zyderm work best. Permanent fillers like Artecoll or Artefill or Silicone or even Radiesse or Sculptra should be avoided in the lips as they can cause serious lumps and bumps. For permanent solutions, Advanta lip implants, Surgisil permalip or Alloderm or SMAS or Dermis to the lips are better solutions. I personally prefer Juvederm ultra or Restylane for lip augmentation as fillers can be “styled” or shaped more than implants can. There are other surgical options such as lip advancement as well but the do leave permanent scars.
