Question: I’m considering using a facial filler to restore some fullness to my facial features. Could you explain the differences between fat injections and Artefill? Is one a better alternative than the other?
Answer: Fat injection is a procedure where fat is gently sucked out or harvested from your own body and prepared and then injected into your face to provide volume. Fat injection may or may not require hospital anesthesia. Fat injections are done in a way to over-correct the area as over half of the fat will absorb within just a few months. Artefill is the only FDA approved “permanent filler” in the US. Its good for correction of small areas like the nasolabial folds but it should be avoided in large bulk as it may become infected and treatment or removal is very difficult. I prefer fat injection or Perlane or Juvederm or even Radiesse for adding facial volume.
