I am coming up on my Septoplasty operation my doctor say that I will have packing in my nose and that there will be a tube in the middle of the packing so that I can breathe. Will I truely be able to breathe the 50 percent like he say’s and is this packing comfortable for the 3 days that I will have it in?
And when it’s pulled out will I be able to breathe comfortable?
Packing is very uncomfortable and often not needed after a septoplasty. It is an “old school” way of doing the surgery. Quilting sutures placed during surgery on the septum negate the need for packing in many instances.
The kind of packing your doctor is recommending is a tampon with a straw like tube in the middle of it. Due to the straw, the packing is even larger and more uncomfortable. If the straw (tube) stays clean and patent then you should be able to breath through it somewhat. You need to discuss these issues with your doctor and see what the benefits and alternatives are in his opinion. I have my own opinions but I am not your surgeon.
