Hi my 3 year old fell on the steps at about 1 1/2 years old and his teeth went through the bottom of his lip and chin. My sons lip is bigger on one side than it is on the other and sometimes gives him problems like biting his lip, he has some speech issues but we are working on his ears as well, we aren’t sure how much my be due to the lip.
we had seen a pediatric plastic surgeon about a year ago and said that it was probably just scare tissue and would go away on it’s own within 6 months to a year. well it hasn’t gotten any smaller and I would really like someone to evaluate him and see if there needs to be or can be done for him. Please any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Holli,
It sounds like your child has hypertrophic scar tissue that is very commonly formed in the lips and on the forehead with traumatic injury.
The initial treatment is always steroid injections. If steroids do not work then the scar may be excised (cut out). In a 3 year old, you do not want to do any surgery unless absolutely needed so I would wait on surgical scar excision until your child is older and can follow post-op instructions. Meanwhile, you can try one or more steroid injections and see if that will take care of it.
I do not know where you live but if you are local, I would be happy to see him. If you live too far then its not worth the trip for something this common. Any decent plastic surgeon should be able to take care of him for you.
Best of luck
