Question: A few years ago I used a skincare product containing Retinol that I purchased at a chain drug store and my skin did not react well. It triggered a major rosacea outbreak. I am interested in doing something to minimize the appearance of age spots and freckles on my face. Given my past reaction to the Retinol, what would be my best option – a chemical peel, dermabrasion, or laser skin resurfacing? Would my skin be potentially sensitive to any of these?
Answer: If you are sensitive to retinol then you may be sensitive to any product or skin care treatment that irritates your face skin. However, there are options for people with Rosacea and even retin-a can be used in a non irritating fashion under the guidance and supervision of a medical master aesthetician. Peels and lasers and hydroquinone are all good options but they too can irritate your skin if the rosacea is not under control. IPL or phototherapy can be used to improve rosacea.
