I was diagnosed with skin cancer approx. 5 years ago. Dr. Allison performed a forehead flap on my nose and removed the cancer. There was no guarantee that the cancer would or would not return, well it looks as thou it is returning. I am getting a small scab in the exact location as before and it won’t go away. Dr. Allison no longer partcipates with Cigna Insurance, so I am left trying to find someone I can trust to help me with my situation once again. As you can probably imagine, I’m scared and not looking forward to what lies ahead. I do have scaring on my forehead and nose and I know with having a 5th surgery is going to do more damage to my face. Is there any advice or help you can give me, if not, can you recommend someone that you would trust. Thank you so much for your time.
I am not sure who Dr. Allison is. Skin cancer on the nose is BEST treated by specialized dermatologists known as MOHS surgeons. There are dermatologists who only perform skin cancer removal and have extensive training for this. The MOHS technique has the highest rate of cure and total resection and the lowest risk of excess valuable normal skin removal – making it ideal on the face in primary skin cancer cases. For recorrent skin cancer cases, MOHS surgery is the only way to go! Typically a MOHS surgeon will perform the excision followed by reconstruction by a plastic surgeon or a facial plastic surgeon. More extensive cases may need radiation therapy although the majority of cases are surgical cases.
Where do you live?
In the Northern Virginia area, I highly recommend Dr. Michael Todd.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. I wish you lots of luck. Make sure you see a MOHS surgeon soon for a biopsy.
