I have developed the granulomas you have described. My doctor injected them to reverse the effect and facilitate drainage. I am currently taking Levaquin and a Medrol dosepack. The lumps are getting hard and painful, which has led me to sqeeze them and they are draining, but seem to be refilling. How long can I expect this to last? How long should I remain on the antibiotic? I am in the health field, so much of this treatment plan is my own, though my plastic surgeon agrees.
These granulomas from Hydrelle are often responsive to a mixture of injectable Kenalog (steroid) and Hyaluronidase as well as aspiration with a large bore needle and syringe. Squeezing them may rupture their content into the surrounding tissue spaces and make things worse. Massage does not work with larger ones but may help with smaller ones. Oral antibiotics are important. While theoretically oral steroids should help, I did not see a benefit with my previous patients. The best thing is close follow up with your surgeon despite being in the healthcare field yourself.
