Question: I am 43 years old and coming in for my first Botox injections. I am a bit nervous about it. How many total injections will I need for my crow’s feet and frown lines? Does the injection site scar, and if so, will people know that they are from Botox injections?
Answer: The botox needle is a 30 gauge needle which is one of the smallest needles possible. It is very rare for this needle to leave a mark other than a temporary bruise but anything is possible. The Botox injections are not “fun” but they are very tolerable with acceptable pain. The injections in my hands take a matter of seconds. Around the eyes and crow’s feet I may place 1, 3, 4, 5 or 7 injections. It all depends on your anatomy. Each person is different. This is why it makes little sense when patients call my office to ask how much we charge per unit of Botox in order to compare it to other places. Botox is a skilled medical service. No two injectors have the same skill or experience or touch. For the frown lines I use between 5 to 8 injection sites. If you are nervous about the pain you can purchase some topical numbing cream like LMX and apply it 30-60 minutes prior to your botox treatment and it makes it more comfortable.
