Once you have a chemical peel done, how long does it generally last before you should get another?
Answer:
Depending on the type of chemical peel performed, the depth and expected outcomes can vary. Medium or deep peels such as TCA (Trichloracetic Acid) and phenol based peels are great resurfacing procedures to reverse the signs of aging skin and improve acne scars. They can remove age spots, precancerous lesions, discoloration and dramatically improve the appearance of wrinkles. The effects of these types of peels are long lasting and usually only need to be performed once. More superficial peels such as alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) are useful for improving overall skin texture, acne and mild discolorations, but will not significantly change the appearance of wrinkles or scars. The effects of a superficial peel will last only a few months and will need to be repeated to maintain the results achieved. Typically these peels can be repeated every 4-6 weeks.
