Can laser resurfacing improve the skin texture?
Laser resurfacing is a great way to improve skin texture, improve skin irregularities, treat age spots and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and scars. There are two types of lasers, ablative or non-ablative. Ablative lasers are used for resurfacing and work by causing controlled injury to the upper layers of the skin. The two most commonly used lasers for this purpose are the Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser and the Erbium Yag laser. After the resurfacing procedure, the upper layers of the skin are vaporized, which heals with new healthy skin. Non-ablative laser also improve skin texture, redness, discoloration and overall skin tone. A non-ablative laser heats the deeper layers of the skin to encourage collagen growth and remodeling with minimal damage to the superficial layers of the skin. Non-ablative laser treatments have minimal down time, but multiple treatments may be needed to produce the desired result.
