I found the amount of injectable fillers available dizzying. Can you explain what the most effective ones are and what they’re best for treating?
The most commonly used injectable fillers on the market are the temporary fillers, such as the hyaluronic-based fillers. Hyaluronic acid based fillers(HA) include Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, and Belotero. These fillers are great for the nasolabial folds or “smile lines” the marionette lines, corner of the mouth and for the lips. Radiesse is a calcium based temporary filler that is also works well in the smiles lines and marionette lines around the mouth, but is not safe for use in the lip itself. For the under eye hollow, Restylane, Belotero and Juvederm work well, but Radiesse is too thick for this area. For augmenting the midface, cheeks and jawline, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Perlane and Radiesse work well, since they tend to give more volume and more support to surrounding tissue. More important than the product used, is product placement with a skilled injector.
