Question: I’ve never used Botox before, but I’m thinking about it. A group of friends – we’re all in our 40s and early 50s – want to go to a local medi-spa for a little “girls day out” and I do have some lines that I wouldn’t mind smoothing out. However, I want to make sure that the facility we’re going to is reputable and meets whatever safety guidelines I should be concerned about. What should I know about the facility itself and the individuals administering the injections?
Answer: I have seen patients trust their faces to spas, gyms and hair salons. I’ve seen people go to inexperienced family doctors, dentists and OBGYNs to get injections. I have pretty much seen all sorts of scary situations such as people getting injected in a friend’s kitchen! This is your face and you should not take risks with it. If you are going to a spa make sure the person injecting you is an experienced board certified plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon or dermatologist and make sure you know and see what is being injected is the FDA approved Botox or Dysport.
