I am a 42 year old mom of three. I don’t feel old, yet I feel like I constantly look exhausted. Does blepharoplasty help reduce darkness under the eyes?
Answer:
Darkening of the skin under the eyes is a common problem that affects both men and women. As we age, the skin under our eyes can thin with loss of collagen, making the underlying vessels give a darkened appearance. Dark circles are not necessarily caused by tiredness but can be worsened by stress, fatigue and poor nutrition. Allergies, nasal congestion, dermatitis and pigmentation irregularities can also be factors that contribute to dark circles under the eyes. Blepharoplasty or eyelid lifts can improve the puffiness, excess skin and “bags” under the eye.Eyelid lifts don’t usually change the color of the skin, but can improve this appearance by improving the contour of the under eye area and subsequent shadows. Chemical peels and laser resurfacing of the skin under the eyes can improve the skin texture, wrinkles and darkened appearance in appropriately selected patients.
