Question: I’m confused about all of the options for skin care rejuvenation. Of the available methods – dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing – is there one that’s known for causing less discomfort or yielding a quicker recover time?
Answer: Deep Resurfacing takes of skin and allows newer, healthier, better skin to replace it. CO2 laser and Phenol chemical peel and Dermabrasion are used for this. Each works differently: Heat-laser, acid-peel, mechanical-Dermabrasion. But they all result in the same end point. Down time is about 2 weeks and you have to be under anesthesia for such deep resurfacing unless only limited areas are being treated such as around lips or eyes. There are less aggressive depths of resurfacing as well such as FRAXEL or 35% TCA chemical peel. These take about a week or less to heal. Even lighter resurfacing can be achieved with Micro-laser peels, VI Peels, Vitalize or Illuminize peels, etc. The depth of resurfacing and the modality determines your down time and your results. But your skin’s particular needs and your skin color and ethnicity determine what modality you should consider or avoid.
