I’m from Reston, Virginia and I’m interested in laser resurfacing treatments. Is there anything that I need to do beforehand to prepare for treatment?
There are many different laser resurfacing treatments available. For an ablative laser resurfacing treatment such as the Erbium YAG laser or the CO2 laser, often pretreatment of the skin is needed, especially in darker skin patients. Pretreatment with Retin A helps prepare the skin for a resurfacing procedure and treatment with hydroquinone topical creams help to minimize risks of darkening or hyperpigmentation following a resurfacing treatment. It is also important to minimize sun exposure several weeks prior to any resurfacing procedure. In our practice in Reston, Virginia, we give an antiviral and antibiotic medication that begins one day before a resurfacing procedure to prevent any infections. It is important to see a qualified facial plastic surgeon, plastic surgeon or dermatologist to properly evaluate your skin and determine whether laser treatment is best for you.
