I am an African American female who had rhinoplasty done for the first time about 5 months ago. Since then I have not seen any changes whatsoever to my nose. The doctor used fat injections to build the bridge of my nose but there are no differences to me. My tip is virtually unchanged and is as bulbous as ever. The width of my nose too remains the same as pre-surgery. Is all this normal? I looked at the before after revision rhinoplasty pics on your website and I love them! How much does a revision rhinoplasty cost? I am so distressed and depressed over having to go through such a process with no significant changes to my nose. According to my original surgeon, I have thin skin…

Hi,
I can understand your frustrations! It can be very distressing to go through elective surgery and then see no appreciable changes. At the same time though, it would be much worse to have gone through an elective rhinoplasty only to have an inexperienced plastic surgeon aggressively reduce your nose size and give you a nose similar to the late Michael Jackson’s. So I guess there is a bright side to your situation.
However, the first thing to clarify is what you exactly had done. Fat injections to the nose are not considered rhinoplasty. Fat should not be injected into the nose period. Occasionally safer fillers may be used but fat has no definition or structural foundation to change the nose and it will either make the nose worse looking or make no changes at all as it melts away.
Cartilage and other soft tissue grafts may be used during rhinoplasty but again a simple fat injection to the nose is not a valid procedure.
I would be happy to see you and examine you and discuss your actual valid surgical options. Perhaps you can start by emailing me some pictures to [email protected] or calling my office at 703-481-0002. Lets not worry about cost until you and I determine what surgery actually needs to be done. The price range is wide and it depends on what you need. It would also be good to get a copy of this doctor’s procedure note dictation so I can see what exactly he did or did not do to your nose.
Regards,
