Question: Does the actual process of laser skin resurfacing hurt? Do over the counter pain medications suffice for before and after the procedure?
Answer: The discomfort or pain from the Laser Skin Resurfacing depends on the laser and the depth of treatment. CO2 laser does hurt. That is why I prefer to do the CO2 laser in the O.R. with patients comfortably asleep under anesthesia. Some patients will tough it out and undergo the laser treatment using oral pain medications, oral valium and topical numbing cream and numbing shots.
