What are Dermal Fillers?
Cosmetic surgery can be performed in many different ways. There are procedures that are invasive, minimally invasive, and non-invasive. Dermal fillers are injectable fillers that are considered minimally invasive. They can give lips a full and plumper appearance, reduce facial creases, remove wrinkles and fine lines, and improve the appearance of some scars. Dermal fillers are also considered a rejuvenation procedure as they can help with early signs of aging and give a person’s face a healthier glow.
Types of Dermal Fillers
All of the dermal fillers that Dr. Shervin Naderi offers produce different outcomes depending on what the patient wants their appearance to look like. One of the most common injectable fillers that Dr. Naderi uses is Juvederm. It is a long-lasting gel filler that helps to reduce the look of fine lines around the lips. The filler provides a healthy, younger look with results that typically lasts up to a year. The gel is comprised of hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in skin, making this a safe dermal filler to use.
Restylane is another common filler that is very similar to Juvederm. It is considered a natural filler to plump thin lips, crows’ feet and forehead wrinkles. Restylane can also be used to fill out hollows beneath the eyes that may come with aging. This filler only lasts for about six to nine months but can provide a very natural-looking appearance. The results can be maintained with follow-up injections.
A Different Type of Injectable
Dysport is an unusual alternative to dermal filler treatments. Dysport, like BOTOX, is not a filler at all but rather a neurotoxin. While dermal fillers treat static wrinkles, or those which appear at rest, these neurotoxins target dynamic wrinkles like crows’ feet and frown lines. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by facial expression; they are the wrinkles and lines that appear on your face when you frown, squint or smile. Neurotoxins like Dysport and Botox can correct dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles. They can also be used to elevate the eyebrows to provide more arch.
Am I a Good Candidate for Injectables?
While injectables are minimally invasive, safe and involve minimal risk, patients should still be in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the outcome. It is suggested that the patient does not smoke for as long as they are receiving dermal filler treatments. If a patient is a smoker, they are advised to stop smoking a month or two prior to the treatment start date. Injectables can be an excellent choice for individuals who are looking to rejuvenate their appearnce and minimize wrinkles and volume loss without undergoing surgery. Patients should understand that results are temporary and will require follow-up treatments in order to maintain the look.
During the consultation, Dr. Naderi will work with the patient to determine if they are a good candidate for an injectable procedure. He will ask a series of questions and conduct a facial examination. The consultation helps Dr. Naderi fully understand his patients and what they are dissatisfied with. He also wants to understand what the goals and desires are for the outcome of the treatments. Based on this information, Dr. Naderi will recommend the best injectable treatment for the patient and explain the different aspects of that treatment.
