The Swan is Back… And This Time They’re Famous!
For fans of Plastic Wives, cosmetic surgery, and before-and-after stories, Fox has commissioned Celebrity Swan, a celebrity version of the 2004 show The Swan. Reality TV, it seems, has truly become a no-boundary format. And it’s nice to see Fox taking an all-inclusive approach by offering “these popular women the incredible opportunity to undergo physical, psychological and career changes.”
There’s a serious message here, however tongue in cheek we might present our own views of another plastic surgery voyeur TV format. Having alterations made to your appearance isn’t just about tweaking your looks. It might change your life. It might change your career. But it will change your psychological make-up one way or the other, and it’s important not to view help in that area with suspicion.
In fact, the psychological care that comes with cosmetic surgery (and we’re talking anything more than a bit of cosmetic filler or a quick syringe of Botox here) starts before the surgeon even picks up their black marker pen. Looking at some of the stars of Plastic Wives, The Swan, or even Louis Theroux’s Under the Knife (dealing with quite extreme forms of body sculpting), it is clear that a lot of body image issues are psychological.
So, anyone considering cosmetic surgery would be well advised to start with small and artistic changes, picking someone who is an acknowledged specialist in their field, and take advice that is both psychologically sensitive as well as medically. Noses, for example, are one of the more common features that produce a negative emotion, but they should be worked on by a specialist in rhinoplasty. It’s part science, part art, and specialists like Dr. Naderi will possess both the technical skill and artistic vision to create a beautiful result.
If it’s an issue related to aging, on the other hand, then you may want to start gently with some non-invasive procedures (such as chemical peels or fillers like Juvederm) and work up to more invasive surgical procedures to get the look just right. Aging face specialists like Dr. Kulak, for example, will often propose non- and minimally invasive procedures that protect and preserve your skin over outright surgery. It’s all about matching expectations with the best possible care for the client.
