Deviated septum corrective surgery in Virginia The nasal cavity is divided into two roughly equal halves by the nasal septum. About 80 percent of all nasal septums are not exactly in the middle of the nose. A nasal septum that is severely off center is called a deviated septum. This condition can obstruct the airway and cause difficulty breathing through the nose. Proper evaluation of the nasal airway must also address the turbinates (bony structures that project from the lateral wall of the nose into the nasal cavity), which can contribute to symptoms of fluctuant and episodic nasal airway obstruction. Other symptoms can include blockage of one or both nostrils, nasal congestion, frequent nosebleeds and/or sinus infections, facial pain, headaches, postnasal drip, and, in young children, noisy breathing during sleep. Septoplasty is a surgical procedure performed entirely through the nostrils to straighten the nasal septum and allow for proper breathing and sinus drainage. Septoplasty can be done with a local or a general anesthetic on an outpatient basis. Septoplasty can be combined with rhinoplasty to alter the appearance of the nose as well as provide a comfortable and open nasal airway. Read about rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty The answer for ears that stick out or protrude (and the end to self-consciousness and teasing) is otoplasty, a surgical procedure that involves reshaping the skin and cartilage behind the ears. The shape and size of the ears can also be altered during surgery. After surgery, soft dressings are placed over the ears for about one week to protect them while they heal and a sports headband may be worn for up to 2 weeks to help hold the ears in place and prevent inadvertent trauma while they heal. Dr. Naderi is one of only a few surgeons in the world trained to perform the newer “incision-less otoplasty,” which was developed at the Indiana University School of Medicine in the late 1990s. In the properly selected patient, this procedure has rewarding results with much shorter downtime and less bruising. Facial trauma reconstruction in Northern Virginia When accidents or cancer affect your face, they also affect your self-esteem. Skilled surgeons like Dr. Naderi know how important it is to your full recovery to carefully reconstruct facial features. Depending on the situation, you may require more than one surgery or procedure. Dr. Naderi will work with you to create an individualized, detailed plan for reconstruction to hide scarring and improve the overall appearance. One of the more simple procedures is that of repairing a torn or stretched-out earlobe, which can be done in the doctor’s office. Other common procedures include lacerations, dog bites and bone and soft tissue reconstruction.
Tired of living with age spots, freckles, or a prominent birthmark? Most of these, including port-wine stains and hemangiomas, can be treated with pulsed-dye laser surgery, which is performed on an outpatient basis and offers minimal discomfort. You will likely require more than one treatment for complete removal of the discoloration. Virginia Facial skin lesionsWhile often just an unsightly facial flaw, moles can be cancerous or pre-cancerous and should be evaluated by a physician, especially if they change in size, color or shape. Moles can be excised (cut away) and the tissue may be sent to the lab for further evaluation. When done by a facial plastic surgeon, the incisions are placed in proper orientation with techniques that offer the best chance for an esthetic outcome and scar camouflage. Mohs reconstruction in Washington, D.C. Proper and total removal of skin cancer is Dr. Naderi's number-one priority and goal. By seeking a facial plastic surgeon for your treatment, you can also optimize your chances for the best possible esthetic outcome. Skilled dermatologists and surgeons recognize the importance of preserving as much facial tissue as possible and carefully reconstructing what is left. To treat cancer and preserve tissue, a special technique called Mohs micrographic excision is used. This technique, performed by a Mohs surgeon (a super-specialized dermatologist), involves carefully and methodically cutting away (excising) the skin cancer and a small cuff of healthy skin, and evaluating the cells under a microscope. Mohs excision minimizes the size of the facial defect that needs to be reconstructed with the best chance of cure. Once the skin cancer is fully removed by the Mohs surgeon, Dr. Naderi begins the repair work. This meticulous, intricate reconstruction is dependent on the site and extent of the defect, but may include the use of flaps or, occasionally, skin grafts. Mohs Reconstruction
Scar revision in Northern Virginia Scar revision is performed to reduce the appearance of scars caused by injury or previous surgery. Techniques such as surgery and dermabrasion can narrow, fade and otherwise reduce the appearance of severe or unattractive scarring, which is especially helpful in areas of cosmetic importance such as the face and hands. Depending on the nature of the scar, multiple procedures over time may be necessary. Sometimes the look or orientation of the scar can be changed to place the scar in a more hidden natural line of the face. Scar revision should usually be delayed for at least a year from the point of the original injury. However, there are steps that can be taken prior to a surgical scar revision that can help reduce scarring. These steps may involve small injections and/or topical applications.
