Otoplasty and Other Procedures
The Naderi Center is the premier choice for otoplasty surgery. Also referred to as ear pinning, otoplasty is a procedure which is designed to improve the appearance of large, protruding ears. Many people, including young children, can feel self-conscious about this issue. Otoplasty can reshape the skin and cartilage behind the ears to make them less pronounced and lie closer to the head. It can also alter the size of the shape of the ears.
Candidates for otoplasty must be in good health and over the age of four. Undergoing the procedure early in life can help to avert embarrassment during school aged years. The outpatient surgical procedure time generally ranges from thirty minutes to one hour with local anesthesia or monitored anesthesia care. General anesthesia is used on children.
Incisions are made behind the ears and are virtually unnoticeable without close examination. Sutures may be used to create folds and extra large “bowl” cartilage may be shaved. Sutures are used to set back the ears. Some patients may be good candidates for a new technique that does not require incisions and results in less bruising, swelling, and recovery time.
Recovery takes seven to ten days. Stitches will dissolve during this time. Soft dressing must be worn for about a week, followed by a sports headband for up to two weeks at bedtime. Most patients return to work or school in about a week, though some restrictions will still apply.
Dr. Naderi and Dr. Kulak also perform a full range of other popular facial plastic surgery procedures.
Rhinoplasty, sometimes called a nose job, can be used to reshape, resize, or augment the nose. This may include removing a hump, altering the angle between the tip of the nose and the upper lip, narrowing the nostrils, or correcting other issues related to an injury or birth defect. Problems with breathing may also be addressed. This complex procedure requires the attention of a well trained specialist to create aesthetic balance while maintaining proper function of the nose. Today, many rhinoplasty patients seek a nose that fits harmoniously on their face while reflecting their own unique beauty.
A rhinoplasty procedure usually takes 2 hours or less to perform under general anesthesia. Some surgical times may be longer, depending on procedure. A closed or open technique may be utilized.
In some cases, revision may be necessary if the results of a previous attempt at rhinoplasty were not satisfactory. Dr. Naderi is a specialist in revision rhinoplasty. Correction to aesthetic or functional problems can be made. The majority, nearly 70%, of revisions are open rhinoplasty. Bruising and swelling may be more severe than the patient’s primary procedure, though there is typically minimal pain.
Facelift surgery addresses the loose, sagging skin, muscles and tissues that occur in the lower face with age. The cheeks, jawline and neck are restored to appear firmer and refreshed, which in turn looks more youthful. Excess skin and fat may be excised after muscles and underlying tissue are lifted.
Dr. Kulak performs facelifts with twilight anesthesia or general anesthesia. Incisions are discreetly hidden in the hairline and inside or in front of the ear. Recovery will take about ten days, with some swelling and bruising present. The appearance of the face will continue to improve over a six-month period.
Though patients may look far younger, “touch-up” procedures may be desired approximately every 8 to 10 years to retain the rejuvenated appearance.
Like a facelift, a necklift will tighten the skin and muscles of the neck, as well as remove excess skin and fat deposits. Incisions may also be made beneath the chin, in addition to those made around the ears. Neck liposuction can be utilized to remove the excess fat, while submentoplasty will tighten the loose skin.
Anesthetic options for patients include general anesthesia or MAC (monitored anesthetic care). Neck liposuction takes approximately thirty minutes to perform, submentoplasty takes about forty-five minutes to an hour, and the necklift takes about two hours.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Sagging and puffy eyelids create a perpetually tired appearance. The upper and/or lower lids can be rejuvenated for a refreshed look with blepharoplasty. Eyelid lifts are relatively simple procedures which utilize incisions made in the natural creases of the eyelids to remove excess skin, fat, and muscle. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions. Tear troughs below the eyes can be addressed by repositioning excess fat or with fat injections.
Recovery for blepharoplasty generally takes about one week, though some bruising and swelling can persist for two to three weeks.
An aging forehead can quickly become wrinkled and begin to lose elasticity. When the forehead weighs down on the brows, a person can look as though they are angry or sad even though they are not. Tightening and lifting the skin and muscles of the brow will brighten a patient’s face and allow them to look more alert. Small incisions are made behind the hairline through which frown lines are smoothed and the brow is elevated. The recovery period is about one week.
Chin Implant Surgery
Chin implants improve the appearance of a weak chin to create a more pleasing profile. Sometimes a chin implant may be combined with rhinoplasty for greater balance between facial features. Implants come in a variety of sizes for different facial anatomies. Mersilene mesh implants are used at The Naderi Center because they do not shift, do not require screws, and cannot be felt though the skin. Recovery for chin surgery takes about one week.
Fat injections, also called fat transfer, can add volume to facial features for a more youthful appearance. With age comes the loss of volume in the cheeks and other areas. Fat from the abdomen and thighs can be harvested and injected into the face to create fullness in features and fill in wrinkles and lines. Some scars may also be treated with fat injections.
Nasal surgery which reconstructs the airway to improve function is referred to as septoplasty. Obstructions in the nose can cause difficulty with breathing. Septoplasty can also be performed at the same time as rhinoplasty to improve both the function and appearance of the nose.
Scars can result from many reasons, including acne, trauma, and surgery. They can be located nearly anywhere on the body. There are several options for scar revision procedures, including surgery, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, and dermabrasion.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing, which may also be referred to as a “laser peel,” is the process through which the uppermost layers of skin are removed with a carbon dioxide laser beam. This procedure is performed on skin which has been damaged or has wrinkles and fine lines.
Chemical peels are used to improve the appearance of damaged skin on the face, neck, or chest. They come in varying strengths, from light to deep. After a peel, new skin grows to replace the outer layers which were removed, for a more vibrant, healthy glow.
