The best candidate for neck liposuction is a healthy man or woman who has good underlying bony architecture, moderate fat, minimal jowls, and no loose skin.

Q - Who is the best candidate for submentoplasty?
The best candidate for submentoplasty is a healthy man or woman who has good underlying bony architecture and no jowls. The procedure is ideal for patients who do not want to undergo a neck lift but would like to improve the appearance of the neck.
 
Q - What does a consultation for a neck lift, neck liposuction or submentoplasty entail?
During the consultation, Dr. Naderi will examine your neck, take a thorough medical history, and discuss your goals. A treatment plan will be recommended and all aspects of the procedure explained including the anesthesia, the facility, the recovery, the risks, the costs and so on..  

Q - Where are neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty procedures performed?
Dr. Naderi performs these procedures at INOVA system hospitals which include Fair Oaks Hospital, Loudoun Hospital, Fairfax Hospital, and Mt. Vernon Hospital.

Q - What type of anesthesia is used for the neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty?
The procedures may be performed with general anesthesia or MAC (monitored anesthesia care).

Q - How is the neck lift performed?
For the neck lift,  hidden incisions are made within the hairline and inside of the ear for women or in front of the ear for men. To provide the most natural and long-lasting results without a “pulled-back” appearance, Dr. Naderi performs a modified composite lift with SMAS elevation and imbrication, along with platysma suture corset tightening (plication) and liposuction.

Q - How is neck liposuction performed?
For neck liposuction, a very small and hidden incision is made under the chin. Liposuction is then used to gently remove excess fat.

Q - How is submentoplasty performed?
For submentoplasty, a small and well-concealed “T”’ incision is made under the chin and then extra skin and fat are removed.

Q - How long do neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty procedures take to perform?
The neck lift can be completed in about two hours, neck liposuction in about thirty minutes, and submentoplasty in about forty-five minutes to an hour.

Q - Where are the incisions made for the neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty?
The neck lift involves a hidden incision which is camouflaged within the hairline and inside of the ear for women or in front of the ear for men. Neck liposuction involves a very small and hidden incision which is located beneath the chin. Submentoplasty involves a small “T” incision which is hidden under the chin.

Q - Do the neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty procedures leave scars?
The incisions made for these procedures do result in scars, though they tend to be well concealed. Small incisions are made under the chin for neck liposuction and submentoplasty, while the incision for the neck lift is camouflaged within the hairline and inside of the ear for women or in front of the ear for men.

Q - Do the neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty procedures involve much pain?
Patients may experience some discomfort which can be controlled with medication.

Q - What is the recovery like after neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty procedures?
Some swelling and bruising may occur after all of these procedures. Stitches are usually removed in seven days. Overall recovery will take anywhere from five to ten days depending on the particular procedure.

Q - When will I be able to return to work after undergoing a neck lift, neck liposuction or submentoplasty procedure?
Patients are usually able to return to work within five days after neck liposuction, within five to seven days after submentoplasty, and in about ten days after a neck lift. 

Q - When are the stitches removed after a neck lift, neck liposuction or submentoplasty procedure?
Stitches are removed in about seven days after surgery.

Q - What are the risks or complications of the neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty procedures?
All surgery carries potential risks. Those associated with the neck lift, neck liposuction  and submentoplasty include bleeding and fluid collection (1-3%),

Q - Does insurance cover neck lift, neck liposuction and submentoplasty procedures?
Insurance typically does not cover these procedures if they’re performed for purely cosmetic purposes, though patients should be sure to check with their own insurance carrier.
