Brow Lift FAQs

Q - What is a brow lift?
The brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure which smoothes forehead lines and wrinkles and elevates drooping eyebrows in order to revitalize the forehead area. The  brow lift may be performed on its own or with other procedures like an eyelid lift or facelift.

Q - Is a brow lift right for me?
If you are healthy and looking to improve the appearance of a drooping brow and/or forehead and frown lines, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift.

Q - What does a consultation for a brow lift entail?
During a consultation for a brow lift, Dr. Naderi will perform a routine examination, take a thorough medical history and discuss your goals. All aspects of the brow lift procedure will be explained including the technique, the anesthesia, the facility, the recovery, the risks, the costs and so on.

Q - Where is the brow lift surgery performed?
Dr. Naderi performs brow lifts at INOVA system hospitals which include Fair Oaks Hospital, Loudoun Hospital, Fairfax Hospital, and Mt. Vernon Hospital.

Q - What type of anesthesia is used for the brow lift?
The brow lift may be performed with MAC (monitored anesthesia care) or general anesthesia.

Q - How is the brow lift performed?
The most common technique for the brow lift is the endoscopic technique which involves four small incisions made behind the hairline. Some patients, particularly male patients, may require a longer incision hidden inside of a deep forehead line. Patients with high hairlines may have the endoscopic approach combined with a small incision along the hairline. Once the incisions are made, frown lines are smoothed by altering the muscles above the eyes and the brow is elevated by lifting the forehead skin. The incisions are then closed.

Q - How long does the brow lift take to perform?
The brow lift takes about an hour to complete.

Q - Where are the incisions made for the brow lift?
The most common technique for the brow lift is the endoscopic technique in which four small incisions are made just behind the hairline. It may be necessary for some patients, mainly men, to make a longer incision hidden inside of a deep forehead line. The endoscopic approach may be combined with a small incision along the hairline for patients with high hairlines.

Q - Does the brow lift leave scars?
The incisions made for the brow lift do result in scars. The endoscopic technique involves several small incisions that are well-concealed behind the hairline, resulting in scars that are barely visible. Other techniques may involve larger incisions but efforts are made to conceal them within a deep forehead line or along the hairline.

Q - Does the brow lift involve much pain?
Patients may experience some discomfort around the incision, along with numbness. Medication can help to control any discomfort that patients experience.

Q - What is the recovery like after the brow lift?
Recovery after the brow lift takes abut a week. Bruising and swelling will be present for the first week or so, and keeping the head elevated during the first few days can help to reduce the swelling. Bandages applied after surgery are removed within a day or two.

Q - When will I be able to return to work after undergoing a brow lift?
Most patients can return to work in about a week after the brow lift.

Q - How soon will I be able to exercise after my brow lift?
Patients will need to wait at least two weeks after the brow lift before partaking in strenuous activities and exercise.

Q - When will the stitches be removed after my brow lift?
The stitches are usually removed seven days after the brow lift.

Q - What are the risks or complications associated with the brow lift?
All surgery carries potential risks. Those associated with the brow lift include possible numbness and tingling on the top of the scalp.

Q - Is the brow lift covered by insurance?
Insurance typically does not cover brow lifts when they are performed for purely cosmetic purposes, though patients should be sure to check with their own insurance company.

Q - Can I finance my brow lift?
Financing is available for many plastic surgery procedures.

In addition to facelift and neck lifts, Dr. Naderi performs Blepharoplasty which is eyelid surgery in Maryland as well as in Virginia.  Dr. Naderi also offers chin implants and fat injections to smooth out the face and create a more youthful appearance.  Many patients opt to have Virginia neck liposuction in order to reduce the fat and wrinkles on their necks and look slimmer.  You might consider enhancing the fullness and overall appearance of your lips with a lip augmentation in Virginia or our other office in Chevy Chase, MD.

If you have scar which resulted from acne, Dr. Naderi is able to excise it using scar revision techniques which may be performed at a hospital or his offices.  He ensures that any unsightly scars are reduced as much as possible.  Dr. Naderi understands that self-esteem and self-confidence can be bolstered with acne scar reduction surgical or non-surgical procedure such as Dermabrasion or the non-inavasive Chemical peels.

Many men and women would like to look and feel younger.  As a result, the use of Botox injections in DC as well Dysport has increased significantly.  It is important to only have these shots administered by a skilled, Board Certified, surgeon or physician.  Dr. Naderi offers these filler injections as well as Restylane and the popular Juvederm and injections such as Radiesse.

Dr. Naderi offers a host of non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as the liquid midface lift using fillers such as Radiesse and Juvederm.  They are temporary solutions unlike permanent, plastic surgery procedures. Another such procedure is the non-surgical nose job which also uses fillers or injections to reshape the nose.

Our offices offer various laser procedures such as Erbium laser and CO2 laser to improve the skin as well as Fraxel laser.  Another dermatological procedure offered by Dr. Naderi is microdermabrasion in Chevy Chase.  Pulsed light can also enhance the skin’s appearance which is why the Naderi Center offers IPL Photorejuvenation to combat spider veins as well as sun spots.  Finally, we offer Obagi which is a facial peel that tightens the skin.
